On Monday, March 12, there were two workshops with Local Media Association's Jed Williams that focused on building a better sales strategy and fostering a culture of innovation. Attendees heard a presentation on the state of our industry from this year's keynote speakers Mike Klingensmith, Sara Glines, George Arwady and Ray Eckenrode. The panelists shared that rethinking everything - products, platforms, customer acquisition strategies, revenue streams - is key to success. Confronting and responding to industry challenges is also essential. That afternoon, there were also sessions that featured topics like events, digital design, native advertising, regional print centers, legal and public notices and partnerships with digital giants like Facebook and Google.
Tuesday, March 13, featured a day full of informative sessions on industry topics such as solutions for small newspapers, print circulation, classifieds, human resources and digital transformation in the newsroom. The evening events allowed attendees and exhibitors to connect and reflect on the day's sessions with the Newsprint Supplier's Reception and Happy Hour.
On the final day of America East, March 14, attendees continued to attend sessions with themes relevant to the current industry trends. Fake news, AI, online subscriptions, being mobile-first, commercial printing and using research to drive strategy were all discussed. To wrap up the event, nearly 200 awards were presented across 16 different categories at the Student Keystone Press Awards luncheon. The AT&T It Can Wait Contest winners were also honored during this time.
