Stephen B. Spolar is the Chief Human Resources Officer for Block Communications, Inc (BCI). BCI is the parent company of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Toledo Blade along with Buckeye Broadband and MaxxSouth, cable TV companies, telephony division Buckeye Telesystem and television stations WDRB,WLIO, and WAND.
Steve began his career @ BCI heading the HR function at the Post-Gazette and is the first Corporate HR officer for BCI in its existence. He has been heavily involved in a wide range of HR activities including labor negotiations and a heavy emphasis on diversity in recruiting. Steve is one of the founders of the non-profit Western Pennsylvania Diversity Initiative (WPDI) which was dedicated to helping employers attract and retain diverse managerial talent in the region. WPDI subsequently merged with another regional entity dedicated to diversity and inclusion, Vibrant Pittsburgh, for which Steve is a Board member.
A native and continuing resident of Pittsburgh, Steve has a BBA from the University of Michigan, a JD from Duke University, and an MILR from Cornell University.
