Kyra McGrath serves as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer for WHYY, Inc, the public media outlet for Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Southern New Jersey, which provides the community with informative, entertaining, in-depth programming on multiple platforms including television (WHYY-TV, Y Info and Y2), radio (WHYY-FM in Philadelphia, Pa., and Cape May Courthouse, Atlantic City, Manahawkin, Berlin and Bridgeton, NJ, and WHYY-HD), and the internet (whyy.org and NewsWorks.org), as well as through live events.  As Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, she is responsible for the operation of all of WHYY’s distribution platforms and production of all content, including news and information and arts and culture programming, as well as the nationally-distributed Fresh Air with Terry Gross.  She also manages engineering, legal and government relations, and serves as Assistant Secretary of the WHYY Board of Directors.  Prior to becoming Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, Ms. McGrath served as WHYY’s Vice President for Strategic Projects and General Counsel. 

Ms. McGrath is a member of the Board of Salus University.  She also currently serves as Chair of the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army’s Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center, for which she chaired the Planning Committee.  She is also a former Chair of the Board of the Philadelphia Division of the Salvation Army, and currently continues to serve as a member.  Ms. McGrath is a past President of the Forum of Executive Women, a network of the region’s top 400 women executives, was the Founding Chair of the Mass Mutual Women’s Advisory Board for the Delaware Valley, and a Founding Member of the Advisory Board for Penn State Great Valley. 

In December 2003 she was named one of 25 Women of Distinction by The Philadelphia Business Journal and in 2009 was named one of the 75 most

influential Irish-American businesswomen in the United States by New York City’s Irish Voice newspaper.  In 2011 she was one of the recipients of the Take the Lead Award from the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the Trailblazers Award from Pathways PA. 

The Pittsburgh, PA native received her B.A. from the Pennsylvania State University and her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
