Barbara Hough Roda is community liaison for LNP and LancasterOnline in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
In her previous post as executive editor, she was the first woman in LNP’s 220-year history to run the editorial department. During this time, LNP was the 2016 recipient of the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Foundation’s G. Richard Dew Award, PNA’s most prestigious honor for outstanding journalism.
Barbara served as print editor and news editor of Lancaster's merged daily and Sunday papers and as managing editor of the former Sunday News before serving as executive editor from October 2013 to summer 2017. She began her journalism career as a general assignment staff writer and later worked as a political reporter and columnist.
She is one of 15 journalists worldwide and the only American to be awarded a 2015 Media Project Coaching and Leadership Fellowship. She served as a mentor in the NEX GEN program of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. Barbara is a 2015 recipient of the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s Visionary Voice Award for Pennsylvania. She has received numerous reporting and editing awards.
A board member of the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors organization, she serves on the Government Affairs Committee of the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association. She is a past board director of the Pennsylvania Society of News Editors.
A native of Illinois and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, she graduated from Elmhurst (Ill.) College with a bachelor's degree in political science. She also attended American University in Washington, D.C. A resident of Manor Township, she is mother to Faith, a Penn Manor graduate and freshman at Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
